Social media and survivors

As a survivor I see social media (Facebook twitter linkdn) a way for support. I feel that it’s a two edged sword. On the one hand it’s positive and supportive and on the other it can be triggering and painful.

One of the drawbacks of social media is that it can prejudice when it comes to applying for jobs. Being a blogger can harm your chances because they see the abuse and not the person behind the abuse.

It seems that society still sees survivors as people who are broken or worse. So is social media good or bad for survivors.

In my opinion the answer is yes and no.

  1. I’m with you on this Ed… yes and no. Although I have never thought about blogging affecting your employment (!!) Like a lot of things in life… good and bad sides. We know the internet has a very dark side and yet we also know from the charity that social media has enabled us to reach survivors all across the globe and to make a very real difference in individuals lives. It is certainly a tool that needs careful and considered use.
